Melvin Clifton Harper, age 89, of Mineral Bluff, GA, passed away at his home on June 24, 2019. He was born in Mineral Bluff, GA , to the late Clive and Mary Hunter Harper. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service, serving in the Korean War. He later worked at the Tennessee Copper Company in the Flume Lines and later as a Janitor for Fannin County School System. He attended Salem #2 Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Dockery Harper; son, Bill Harper; and sisters, Margie Kirkland, Elsie Harper, Mary Ellen Baker, and Vivian Henson. He is survived by his wife Eulene Harper of the home; daughters Ann Welch and husband Don; Gail Miyata; and Lynn Witherow; sister Lillian Bailey (George) of Mineral Bluff, GA; and brother Charles Harper of Mineral Bluff, GA. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday June 27, 2019 from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Music was provided by the A.C. Caylor Family. Interment followed in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Ronnie Henson, Kimmy Henson, James Bailey, Jerry Bailey, Dillon Harper, and Lucas Roof served as pallbearers. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
