Obituary

Melva Jean Farmer, age 87, of Blue Ridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at her home. Melva was born on November 30, 1936 in Howesville, WV to the late Oliver and Winifred Nine. She worked for 25 years at the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia. Later, she and her husband owned the Farmer's Wife store in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She loved God and her family. With her love for music, Melva enjoyed playing the piano for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a master gardener, loving daylillies, and in her free time enjoyed painting.

Melva is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace Farmer; children, Billy (Alisa) Farmer, GiGi (John) Mohrmann, Debra (Ken) Collier, and Kelley (Dennis) Smith; and twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held by the family on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Salem #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Curtis officiating. Music will be provided by Ken and Kenny Collier. A memorial service will also be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the State Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA with Dr. Chad Knowles officiating. The family request memorial contributions be made to Boystown at boystown.org.
