Mary Lou Wilson, age 83, of Morganton, Georgia, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Born on November 21, 1942, in Morganton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late J.L. and Lucille Odom Chambers. Mary Lou was a member of Bethel Methodist Church, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her loving church family. She dedicated twenty-one years of service to Circle J Family Steakhouse, and later retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections, where she worked as a food service manager. Mary Lou was known for speaking her mind-you always knew where she stood. She loved being and working outdoors, especially mowing her yard, and tending to her flowers.
Above all else, Mary Lou cherished the time she spent outdoors with her beloved family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Donald Wilson Sr.; son, Larry Donald "Don" Wilson Jr.; grandchild, Brian Holden; and siblings, Linda Sue Chambers and Stanley Chambers.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Rachel Holden (Travis) and Demetrius (Bobbie) Wilson; grandchildren, Kim Holden Stephens (Todd), Jonathan Heaton (Jessica), Kery Wilson (Catline), Tristan Wilson (Chelsea), and Noah Wilson (Kaiya); great-grandchildren, Alexis Stephens, Dawson Heaton, Addi Stephens, Blake Heaton, Miller Wilson, and Eloise Wilson; siblings, Steve Chambers (Linda) and Raylene Cobb (Jimmy); several nephews, extended relatives, her loving Bethel Methodist Church family, and great friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Min. Tim Taylor and Min. Michael Morton officiating. Music was provided by Margaret Crawford and Teresa Ross. Interment followed in the Hemptown Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Kim Stephens, Jonathan Heaton, Noah Wilson, Tristan Wilson, Dawson Heaton, Blake Heaton, and Jason Cobb. Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers were Travis Holden and Todd Stephens. The family visited with friends at the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge, Georgia on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions in honor of Mary Lou may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society .
