Mary Alice Whitener, age 83, of Farner, TN passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008 in the Copper Basin Medical Center. Mary was a native of Cherokee County, NC and was a daughter of the late Zack and Lizzie Murphy Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Earl Whitener, son Lloyd Whitener and grandson, Joshua Mason.She is survived by two sons, Dennis & wife Kathy Whitener of Blue Ridge, GA and Austin "Buddy" Whitener of Farner, TN; three daughters, Frances & husband Earnest Higdon of Farner, TN, Barbara Doughitt of Farner, TN and Ramona & husband Rick Bird of Cherokee, NC; Grandchildren: Anthony Worthy, Carol Worthy, Timothy Worthy, Greg Worthy, Missy Whitener, Andy Whitener, Amanda Reece, Mary Ann Raper, Rose Anna Bloodworth, Tony Whitener, Junior Whitener, Trace Mason and Devin Mason. Nineteen great-grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends.Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 24, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Miller and Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. Music was by Janice Reid and Calla Mae Miller. Interment followed in the Prospect cemetery. Pallbearers were Anthony Worthy, Timothy Worthy, Greg Worthy, Andy Whitener, Junior Whitener, Trace Mason, Devin Mason, Bill Thomasson, Danny Raper, James Bloodworth and Dee Higdon.
