Mary Alice Padgett Shields, age 74, of Turtletown, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. She was born on July 13, 1950, in Ducktown, to the late Roosevelt Padgett and Gwendolyn Walker Padgett. Mary was a graduate of Copper Basin High School. She was of the Baptist Faith. Mary worked at Ducktown Variety as a cashier for many years. She will always remember for having a loving spirit and was always selfless in caring for others. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tommy Shields; and brother, Ray Padgett.
Survivors are her children, Mary Jane Cox (Jamie) of Blue Ridge, Brandon Shields (Jeff Collins) of Copperhill, Brittney Allen (Jason) of Turtletown and Matthew Shields (Miranda) of Turtletown; grandchildren, Keshia Dover, Kayla Davenport, Carly Cox, Landon Allen, Lilah Shields, Alayna Allen and Zeb Shields; great-grandchildren, Kylan Dover, Kyndall Dover, Gabe Davenport and Pippa Davenport; sisters, Rose Postell of Ducktown, Libby Thomas of Turtletown and Jenny Pittman (Butch) of McCaysville; several nieces and nephews also survived.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Joey Buchanan officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brandon Shields, Jeff Collins, Matthew Shields, Jason Allen, Jamie Cox and Landon Allen. Honorary Pallbearers were the staff at Copper Basin Health and Rehabilitation, who truly are angels among us. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m.
