Mary Jo Newman Payne, age 90, born October 18, 1932, went to her heavenly home on April 17, 2023. Mary Jo was born in Beaverdam, NC to the late Willis Fulton and Charlotte Gibson Newman. Mary Jo was a member of Staffordtown Church. She loved the Tennessee Vols and her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd D. Payne; children, Patricia Payne Lewis, Timmy Payne, William "Pedro" Payne; grandson, Devin Payne; daughter-in-law, Sheila Wynn Payne; as well as, four brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her sons, L.D. (Teresa) Payne, Dale (Peggy) Payne, and Gary Payne; bonus son, Ricky York; daughters-in-law, Amy Lohr Payne and Renee Walden Payne; sons-in-law, Robert Champion and Jay Lewis; grandchildren, Denny (Norma) Payne, Nathaniel Payne, Angela (Shane) Dean, Justin (Ruby) Payne, Jay Champion, Ben (Brittney) Lewis, Jesse Lewis, Aric (Kara) Payne, Evan Payne, Kala Szlosek, and Corey Payne; sisters, Hattie Maney and Betty Adams; twenty great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Chapel with Rev. Justin Payne officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Payne and Ruby Payne. Interment will follow in the Farner Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Denny Payne, Nathaniel Payne, Jay Champion, Aric Payne, Evan Payne, and Corey Payne. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Lewis and Jesse Lewis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.akinscobb.com.
