Mary Charlene Herndon, age 88, of Ducktown, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Chattanooga. She worked for many years at Levi Strauss and later as a receptionist before retiring. She attended Mount Harmony Baptist Church. Charlene was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Mineral Bluff. She was born on December 2, 1934, to the late George Patton Mashburn and Frances Melvina Coleman Mashburn. Charlene was the last surviving of her ten siblings. She is also preceded in death by her son, Charles Guinn Smith, Jr. and grandson, Michael Crawford.

Charlene is survived by her children, Jeff Smith, Andy (Peggy) Smith, and Amy Crawford; grandchildren, Gwen (Kerry) Dills, Laura Crawford (Jared) Krolikowski, Amanda Smith, Travis (Billie Jean) Smith, and Tiffany Smith; six great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, and special pet, Franklin.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Mark Huff officiating. Music was provided by Janice Reid and Mark Huff. Interment followed in the Bear Paw Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Trent Smith, Jared Krolikowski, Travis Smith, Lamar Peardon, Kerry Dills, and Jared Bigham. The family visited with friends on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 2:00 PM.
