Mary Catherine Burger, age 90, of Copperhill, TN passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Copper Basin Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on January 23, 1933 in the hot house community to the late Akins Johnson and Lelia Dockery Johnson. Mary was an active and long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She enjoyed her time with the Bethlehem Home Demonstration Club. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leland Burger; and siblings, Earl Johnson, Clint Johnson, LeRoy Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Imogene Smith, Lucille Campbell, and Ann Mashburn.

She is survived by her children, Ronald (Reba) Burger of Navarre, FL and Marty (Terri) Burger of McCaysville, GA; brothers, Kenneth Johnson of Copperhill, TN, Rev. Randy (Mescal) Johnson of Marble, NC, and Ernie Bilton; sister, Sue Whitener of Ducktown, TN; sister-in-law that was more like a sister, Frankie Isaacs of Belmont, NC; grandchildren, Joel (Kimberly) Burger, Jordan (Whitney) Burger, Eric Burger, and Mark Burger; and great-grandchildren, LilaKate Burger, Max Burger, Jaxson Burger, and Liam Burger.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 7:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be provided by Champ Prince, Missy Taylor, Miranda Taylor, Melanie Cochran, Aaliyah Cochran, and Addison Cochran. A family graveside service will take place on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 12:00 PM from the Zion Hill Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Joel Burger, Jordan Burger, Marty Burger, James Whitener, Mitchell Hicks, and Levi Roberts. Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers are: Champ Prince, Eric Burger, Mark Burger, and Noel Kennedy. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 28, prior to the service from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted for the service, however, if you would like to make a memorial contribution, the family has requested those to be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Mission Fund at 773 Burgertown Road, Copperhill, TN 37317.
