Marlene Brackett Hood, age 82, of McCaysville, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Blue Ridge. She was born on August 23, 1935 in Copperhill, TN, to Elmo "Jody" Brackett and Esther Taylor Brackett. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Epworth. She retired from Fannin Regional Hospital where she had worked as an LPN. She loved her family; feeding and watching birds; her dogs, Bruiser and Quila; and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James S. Hood; and brothers, Gene Brackett and Hugh Lynn Brackett. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Joe Williams; sons and daughters-in-law, James M. "Jimmy" and Sherry Hood and Greg and Alethia Hood; sister, Sue Godfrey; grandchildren and their spouses, Shawn and Lisa Hood, Tara and Greg Garland, Jake and Martha Williams, Josh and Christina Hood, and Dawn and Jason Millsaps; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hood, Jacob Williams, Will Hood, Colton Millsaps, Abby Grace Hood, Ember Millsaps, Nathan and Rachel Malone, Christopher and Kate Malone; great-great-grandchild, Elizabeth Malone; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan and Rev. Rubin Smith officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, where her late husband is also interred. Shawn Hood, Jake Williams, Josh Hood, Greg Garland, Jason Millsaps, and Nicholas Hood are serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob F. Williams, Will Hood, Colton Samuel Millsaps, David Brackett, Tim Brackett, and Billy Brackett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mrs. Hood's memory to the First Baptist Church of Epworth, Building Fund at P.O. Box 187, Epworth, GA 30541.
