The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces funeral services for Luther Eugene Trammell, Jr., age 64, of Copperhill, TN who passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Eugene was born in Fannin County, GA to the late Luther Eugene and Julia Ray Trammell, Sr. He was a former miner for over twenty years with the Tennessee Copper Company and was more recently retired from the Vulcan Materials Company in Ellijay, GA where he worked as a Diesel Mechanic. He was affectionately known to friends as "Shorty" and as "Paddlefoot" to his CB radio friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Virginia Mull, Robert Trammell and Joyce Trammell. He is survived by his wife Henrietta Trammell of the home; son, Dewayne Trammell of Copperhill, TN; two daughters, Sharon Camp of Morganton, GA, Cheryl Trammell of Copperhill, TN; three brothers, Carl Trammell of Mineral Bluff, GA, Chuck Nicholson of Dalton, GA, Max Nicholson of Chatsworth, GA. Six grandchildren, Kasey Rogers, Taylor Rogers, Ashton Myrick, Richelle Hawkins, Krista Arrington and Jonathan Woodall. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 16th at 2:00 P.M. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Deal and Denny Hawkins officiating. Music will be by the Deal family and Richelle Hawkins and Denny Hawkins. Pallbearers include, Chuck Nicholson, Max Nicholson, Carl Trammell, Terry Trammell, David Trammell, Kasey Rogers and Matt Deal. Honorary Pallbearers will be former miners of the Tennessee Copper Company, Employees of Vulcan Materials in Ellijay, GA, CB Radios friends, and nephews, nieces and friends. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday and Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Trammell may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30319.
