Obituary

Luther Arvie Jones, age 94 of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2019. He was born in Blue Ridge, GA to the late Mark Hannah and Lela Angeline Foster Jones. He served his country proudly in World War II in the United States Army. He was in combat in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He received the War World II Victory medal, Good Conduct medal, and the Purple Heart for injuries received in Germany. After returning home, he graduated high school and later served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Jones retired with Cities Service as a office manager and was a member of the Tri- State Electric Membership Cooperative Board from November 7, 1990 to April 22, 2003. He was a lifelong member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church where he also served as deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife Inez Mary Jones; brothers Rev. Charlie Jones, Alvie Jones and sister Lola Patterson. He is survived by his son, Al (Dana) Jones of Blue Ridge, GA; granddaughter, Kelly (Tracy) Mardis; grandson, Rev. Mark (Beth) Jones; great-granchildren, Tucker Mardis and Hudson Mardis, Forrest Jones, Adee Jones and David Jones; brothers, Ernest Jones of Epworth, GA, Robert Jones and Kenneth Jones both of Blue Ridge, GA; sisters, Josephine Jones of Blue Ridge, GA and Ruth Guinn of Alabama. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Posey, Rev. Lamar Beason, Rev Mark Jones and Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Watkins and Joel Collis. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jeffrey Davenport, Jim Davenport, Tucker Mardis, Hudson Mardis, Forrest Jones, David Jones, and Tyler Roper. Honorary pallbearers was past and present members of the Tri-State Electric Membership Cooperative Board of Directors. Interment followed in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
