Lt. Commander Wayne Gene Phelps. age 58, of Epworth, GA passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at his home. He was born in Oneida, NY on November 21, 1953 to the late Lester C. Phelps and Eileen Austin Phelps. He was retired from the United States Navy where he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal with a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal with a Gold Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and expert Pistol Medal. He was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by his wife, Judith Phelps of Epworth; daughter, Allison Brandenburg of Denver, CO; brothers, Carl Pentland of Wisconsin and Lesley Phelps of Washburn, Maine; and a grandchild, Elizabeth Phelps. North Georgia Honor Guard will provide military services Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando, FL.
