Mrs. Lorene Virginia Long, age 89, of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Born in Fannin County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Dane Kirby and Pauline Stephens Kirby and the wife of the late Dashiel C. Long. She worked at Harbor Roads as a sewing machine operator and was a member of Mt. Pleasant "Top of the Mountain" Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Kirby.She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Rita Long of Mineral Bluff, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Long Sanford and Eddie Sanford of Ellijay; brothers, Lee Kirby of Marietta, GA, Howard Kirby of Mineral Bluff, and Edwin Kirby of Atlanta, GA; sisters, June Davenport and Hazel Woody, both of Morganton, GA; and three grandchildren, Russell Long, Eddie Sanford, and Chasity Ledford. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Scotty Graves, Rev. Bill Johnson, and Rev. Larry Stover officiating. Music was by the Helping Hands Church Choir. The following nephews served as pallbearers: Larry Davenport, Jerry Davenport, Richard Davenport, Danny Kirby, Dane Kirby, and Robert Kirby. Grandsons Russell Long and Eddie Sanford served as honorary pallbearers. Interment followed in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
