Obituary

Mr. Leo Ransom Joffre, age 77 of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Friday, June 27, 2008 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Mr. Joffre was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Leopold and Gertrude Hart Joffre. He served this country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was involved in the Chosen Reservoir Conflict in 1950. During his tour of duty he received the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Meritorious Unit Commendation award. Later he worked for the Dade County Police Department where he retired after twenty five years at the rank of Captain. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mr. Joffre had been involved with youth sports in Fannin County for many years. Survivors include his wife of over forty five years, Mary Jo Joffre of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Barbara Joffre of New Hampshire, Roy and Sari Joffre of Massachusetts, Ken and Sherry Joffre of Alabama and Mark Joffre of Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Roberson of Mineral Bluff, GA, Jane and Chuck Barrow of Massachusetts, Susan and Claude Duke of the Virgin Islands and Patricia Thompson of , Florida; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Monday June 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with Father John Conway officiating. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Gary Joffre, Roy Joffre, Ken Joffre, Mark Joffre, Alex Roberson, and Chuck Barrow. The following gentlemen served as honorary pallbearers: Takis Gaitanoglou, Dino Bouloukos, and John English. Interment followed in Chastain Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105-1942.
