The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces funeral services for Mrs. Laura Dolores Bates Beavers Johnson, age 80, of Ducktown, TN who passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Johnson was a native of the Copper Basin area and was a daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Craig Bates. She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, two National Quilting Guilds, a fifty year member of the Martha Chapter #246 O.E.S. and the Murphy Chapter #10 O.E.S. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed quilting as a hobby. She was also preceded in death by brother, Charles Bates, Jr.She is survived by her husband Forrest B. Johnson, II of Ducktown, TN; son, Ronald D. Beaver of Asheville, NC; step-son, Forrest B. Johnson, III of Hayesville, NC; daughters, Sandra (Lonnie) Oliver of Asheville, NC, Debra (Billy H.,Jr) Cole of Niceville, FL; step-daughters, Suzanne Johnson of Mineral Bluff, GA and Elizabeth Jacobson of Wellington, FL; brother, Ronnie(Opal) Bates of Martins Creek, NC; sister, Ramona Hogsed of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law, Elza Bates of Murphy,NC; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one step-great grandchild.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. from the Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ned Golden and Rev. Gerald Derryberry officiating. Music will be by Ava Smith and Mary Lou Davis. Pallbearers will be Jamie Mason, Shane Mason, Bradley Densiion and Johnny Shields. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Eastern Star service will be Friday evening at 8:00 p.m at the funeral home by the Martha Chapter #246 Order of Eastern Star.
