Mrs. Lana Nicholson, age 99, of Turtletown, TN passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at her home. Born in Polk County, TN and was the daughter of the late R.W. and Carrie Grizzle Payne. She, along with her husband, Ray owned and operated Nicholson's General Store for many years in Turtletown. Mrs. Nicholson was a long time member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Ray M. Nicholson and Henry Logan; son, Ray Nicholson, Jr.; siblings, Carl Payne, Evelyn Payne, Edna Hensley, Mamie Paulk, Clinton Payne, Helen Stiles, Dorothy Morrow and son-in-law, Gene Harper. She is survived by son, Reed "Monk" and wife Betty Nicholson of Turtletown, TN, Willard and wife Velma Nicholson of Savannah, GA; daughters, JoAnn Harper of Copperhill, TN, Barbara Jean Pittman and husband Melvin of Turtletown, TN; daughter-in-law, Betty Henson Nicholson of Columbus, GA; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted Sunday, September 27th at 2:00 p.m. from the Zion Hill cemetery with Rev. Farris Reid officiating. Pallbearers included Jake Harper, Devan Dilbeck, Brandon Shields, Sherman Ray, Chad McDougal and Mike Dale. Condolences to the family may be sent to www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
