Obituary

Rev. Kenneth John "Comanche" Montgomery, age 87, of Ducktown passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Parkridge Medical Center. Kenneth was born on September 5, 1936 in Ducktown to the late John Henry and Nora Griffin Montgomery. He graduated from Ducktown High School in the class of 1955, and he would go to serve his country joining the United States Air Force. Kenneth served as Pastor at Union Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff for 30 years, and before that, pastored several churches in the tri-state area including Riverhill Baptist Church, Zion Hill Baptist Church, Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church, and Isabella Baptist Church. He was member of the Ducktown Lodge #241 F&AM for over 57 years. Kenneth was a passionate outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending his free time working on his tractor. He spent many years coaching football, and his love for the game would continue as a fan of Copper Basin High School, the University of Tennessee, and Clemson University.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane Montgomery; and siblings, Kermit C. Montgomery and Chouncey Bruce.

He is survived by his sons, Johnny (Penny) Montgomery of Ducktown, Brian (Laura) Montgomery of Cleveland, TN, and Sam (Dana) Montgomery of Jasper, TN; grandchildren, Brandon (Dana) Montgomery of Cleveland, TN, Dalton (Tiffany) Montgomery of Cleveland, TN, Ethan Montgomery of Jasper, TN, Owen (Emma) Montgomery of Whitwell, TN, Eli Montgomery of Jasper, TN, Devan (Nathan) Dickey of Soddy Daisy, TN, Austin Montgomery of Cleveland, TN, Courtney Montgomery of Blue Ridge, Jacob Montgomery of Dalton, Cody Montgomery of Chattanooga, TN, Summer Montgomery of Turtletown, TN, and Kelly Montgomery of Ducktown; Great-grandchildren, Sadie Sue Truelove, Braxton Montgomery, Maci Kate Montgomery, Lincoln Montgomery, Benzley Montgomery, Jaxton Clore, and Maddie Clore; and siblings, Diane Franklin of Fannin County, and Steve Montgomery of Elizabethton, KY.

Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 5:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Donald Weaver and Rev. Al Patterson officiating. Music will be provided by Melinda Bryant and Lawrence Bice. Military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow at a later date in the Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to either Union Baptist Church Cemetery, in care of Larry Mull at P.O. Box 505 Mineral Bluff, GA 30559, or Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery at 108 Padgett Lane Turtletown, TN 37391.
