Joseph Karl Vossen, age 61, of Morganton, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 . He was born in Angola, IN on May 23, 1957 to Joseph P. Vossen and Evelyn M. Szutarski Vossen He was a member of Saint Monica's Parish in Duluth. He graduated from the University of Miami with degrees in Chemistry and Computer Science and later worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Arbor Networks. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Kaye Vossen; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tanja Vossen; stepson, Jeff Stringer; and stepdaughter and son-in-law, Katie and Jonathan LeMaire, grandchildren, Charles Vossen, Caroline Vossen, Anna Grace LeMaire, and Elliott LeMaire; his mother, Evelyn Szutarski; and his sister, Linda Vossen.Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 1:00 pm from Akins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Richard Phillips will officiate. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Vossen to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
