Johnny Ray Queen, age 83, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed away at his home on June 23, 2026.
Born on May 26, 1943, in Copper Basin, Tennessee, Johnny was the firstborn son of the late Roy Queen and Lenard Olvey Queen. He dedicated many years of service to the Tennessee Copper Company, where he worked as a foreman. He had a strong work ethic and would often work, although he was ill; and he would work without complaining. Johnny was active at Harbor Ministries for over twenty years. He served on the steering and the finance committees, and enjoyed worship and fellowship. He served the Lord being an active church member until he was weakened by illness.
Johnny was a man of many talents. He and his brother Travis bought a sawmill and milled most of the wood needed to build their two houses. He was an avid gardener and beekeeper. He had a curious mind and enjoyed learning new skills, recently deciding to make sauerkraut, and to grow grapes and strawberries. He loved staying active by hunting and fishing for catfish in marathon sessions that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. He was a devoted father, coaching Little League teams and camping with his children. He was a compassionate man with a quick wit and warm smile. He will be sorely missed.
Along with his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ruth Ann Queen; and granddaughter, Ashley Candelaria.
Johnny is survived by his children, David (Cynthia) Queen of McCaysville, GA, Kevin (Tenya) Queen of Ellijay, GA, and Angela Queen Candelaria of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Sophia Queen, Anthony (Sherry) Queen, James Candelaria, Mikayla (Andrew) Queen, and Joshua (Priscilla) Mumpower; great-grandchildren, Cayden Robinson, Victoria Panter, Layla Dodge, and Aurora Mumpower; siblings, Travis Queen and Gary (Imogene) Queen; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Denise Caldwell officiating. Music will be provided by Denise Shinpaugh and Rev. Denise Caldwell. Interment will follow in the Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: James Candelaria, Anthony Queen, Andrew Queen, Danny Caldwell, Jeff Queen, and Terry Flowers.
