Mr. John Edward Mullinix, age 64, of Epworth, GA passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Olney, MD on January 11, 1952. He was raised in Dayton and Glenelg, Maryland and graduated with honors from Glenelg High School. When John was five years old, his father saw him sitting by himself talking. When his father asked who he was talking to, John answered, "I'm talking to myself, a very important person". Playing with toy farm tractors and wagons in the sand pile behind his father's farm equipment business spurred his lifelong interest in farm equipment. As a First grader, one of John's jobs on the farm was to get up at the crack of dawn to milk the cows and that continued through high school. He always said he went to Georgia Tech because there were no cows at Tech. Once John got to Georgia Tech, he never returned to work on the family farm. He stayed in Georgia and married Katherine Janet Kelly. They began investing in real estate beginning in 1985, which led to his work in mortgage business. In 1998, John and Janet built a cabin in Fannin County, discovering their hearts belonged in the North Georgia Mountains and made a permanent home in Epworth, GA in 1996.John's obsession with computers began with the purchase of his first PC in 1983, which led to his taking computer courses from North Georgia Tech. He became a Certified Net Worker, and in early 2000s, created his own IT company, Cohutta.Com, Inc., which specializes in computers and telephone systems. His love of Fannin County caused John to become absorbed in community affairs. He served as a volunteer fireman, operated a ham radio, and joined the Tea Party as an active member. He recently became a guest columnist for the Fannin Sentinel. John was a lover of people, a person interested in many different facets of life, a man of sincere opinions, someone who enjoyed everything he did.Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Janet Kelly Mullinix of Epworth; mother, Elizabeth C. Mullinix of Dayton, MD; siblings and their spouses, Sheppard and Patricia Schwarz of Glenelg, MD, Stephen and Donna Mullinix of Dayton, MD, Michael and Nance Mullinix of Dayton, MD, and Mark and Bernadette Mullinix of Dayton, MD, brother-in-law and his spouse, Richard and Linda Kelly of Greenville, SC; nieces and nephews and other relative and friends.Funeral services were held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:00 from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Brian Pritchard and Elaine Bishop officiating.
