John Massengale, 79, a resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Saturday July 29, 2017 at Erlanger Medical Center from a brief illness. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was born April 15, 1938 in Copperhill, TN to the late Wayne and Ruth Massengale. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, John Gary Massengale Jr.; grandson, Justin Owen Massengale; sister, Barbara McGill, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and brother, Winston Massengale, of Chatsworth, GA. John was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Airforce. He retired from BellSouth/ AT&T after 30 plus years of service. He was a member of CWA. John will be dearly missed by his faithful and loving wife of 60 years, Judy L. Massengale, of Cleveland, TN; son, Marty Massengale, of Chattanooga, TN/ Austin, TX; sister, Mary Ruth (Roy) Chancey, of Cleveland, TN; brother, Ed (Jeri) Massengale, of McCaysville, GA; brother-in-law, Robert (Ann) Coffey, of Ocoee, TN; as well as several nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors. A celebration of life memorial service is planned for 2:00pm on Saturday August 5, 2017 at the Hopewell Baptist Church, located at 188 Old Georgetown Road NW, Cleveland TN 37312, with Pastor Ed Eldridge officiating the service. The family will receive friends two hours prior, from 12:00pm until the 2:00pm service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to either The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society in John's memory.
