John Reed Conley, age 89, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at his home. He was born on December 24, 1934, in Blue Ridge, to the late John Littleton Conley and Ollie Miller Conley. Reed was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church. Reed enjoyed the most simple things in life, going to church, spending time with family, sitting on the porch, and growing a garden. He served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer battleship, USS Vogelgesang. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as an Engineering Technician. Reed is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Carrie Long Conley; brothers, Frank Conley, Wade Conley, and Ralph Conley; and sisters, Louise Porter, Ruth Parris, and Effie Griffin.

Reed is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Harlan and Lisa Conley of Blue Ridge, Ricky and Vicky Conley of Chatsworth, and Robbie Conley of Blue Ridge; two grandchildren and their spouses, Haley and Ryan Cochran and Isaac and Julie Conley; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Rubie Ward of Blue Ridge.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Larry Williams and Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Music was provided by the Sugar Creek Quartet. Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment followed in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Pityer, Isaac Conley, Ryan Cochran, Tyler Roper, Kenneth McVey, and Jerry Harrison.
