Mr. John Reed Chancey, age 85, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at his home. Mr. Chancey was born on April 9, 1927 in Gilmer County, Georgia to the late George Mathew Chancey and Hulda Sisson Chancey. He worked for Cities Service for 43 years as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. Mr. Chancey was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II and a member of the North Georgia Commandery. He was a member and past worshipful master of Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge #67 F&AM and a member of the North Georgia Shrine Club. Besides his parents, Mr. Chancey was preceded in death by his sisters, Mae Kyle and Nancy Higdon and a brother Chesley Chancey. He is survived by his wife, Clara Miller Chancey of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Jeanette Chancey of Blue Ridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Jeffery O'Neill of Marietta, GA, Rhonda L. and George Ensley of Epworth, and Robin M. and Van Pickelsimer of Morganton; brothers and sister-in-law, Joe W. Chancey of Cherry Log and Ralph L. and Irene Chancey of Cherry Log; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Ray Queen and Rev. Danny Collis officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Chancey, Shawn Chancey, Nathan Chancey, Beau Chancey, Michael Bennett, Johnny Ensley, and Matthew Pickelsimer. Interment will follow in Damascus Church Cemetery with masonic rites by Blue Ridge Lodge #67 F&AM and military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard.
