Jody Michael Cook, age 48, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born on February 13, 1975, in Marietta. Jody was known in many parts of the country as a traveling man, traveling with his dog, Handsome, throughout many places. He was so loving that he would push his dog in a shopping cart; or on the seat of a bicycle; or pull him in a wagon to keep from wearing down the pads of his paws. Jody never met a stranger and was willing to turn his hand to any handiwork to earn his bread and make his own way, yet humble enough to ask for help when necessary. He found beauty and wisdom in simple things, because he paid attention. He was a man with many talents, but the force that kept him on the move got worse as he grew older. He could build amazing things, like a patio that wrapped around a tree, in a near-natural way. But material things were not important to him, and putting down roots seemed impossible. He bore many troubles in his mind as he walked, camped, hitched, climbed mountains, sought shelter. All the while putting the needs of his dog before his own.

He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Mitchell Cook and sister, Felicia Leah Cook.

Jody is survived by children, Jonathan (Kayla) Cook, Savanah Cook, and Region Cook; granddaughters, Skyler Cook and Serenity Cook; mother, Angie Howard Cook; sisters, Wendy Cross and Melinda Cook; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM from Oak Grove Baptist Church, Hwy 92, Acworth, GA 30102, with Rev. Nathan Smith and Rev. Wayne Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Cook, Travis Long, Lee McCorkel, Austin Arp, Thomas Smith, David Mashburn, and Ricky Mashburn. The family will visit with friends at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help defray final expenses, either at the funeral home or to his Go Fund Me Account .
