Joann Cheatham, age 87, of Farner passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026 surrounded by her family. Joann was born on March 24, 1938 in Copperhill to the late Elmer Hawkins and Bertha Parr Hawkins. She worked for over 32 years as a housekeeper at Fannin Regional Hospital. Joann attended Staffordtown Holiness Church for a number of years. She enjoyed going shopping, on vacations, and staying on the go. Joann loved spending time with her family. In her alone time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and coloring books.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bertha Hawkins; husband, Charles Cheatham; and siblings, John Henry Goodwin, Margaret Brown, Bonnie Cochran, Tom Hawkins, and June Thomas.
Joann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer & David Newman; grandchildren, Rachel (Chris Hardin) Kimsey, Matthew Kimsey, and Hunter (Abby) Newman; great-grandchildren, Makenna Stone, Laken Hardin, Lakota Hardin, Aycen Kimsey, Auden Kimsey, Kase Kimsey, and Emory Kimsey; nieces and nephews, Roy (Della Mae) Cochran, Kenny (Jen) Cochran, Mike (Lisa) Grindstaff, Roger Hall, Teresa Dillard, Junior Brown, and Bill Brown; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Justin Payne officiating. Music was provided by Ruby Payne. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Copperhill. Pallbearers were Bill Newman, Chris Hardin, Kenny Cochran, Troy Cochran, James Cochran, and Gary Crain. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Hall, Roy Cochran, Junior Brown, and Bill Brown. The family received friends at the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
