Joan Orton Panter, age 76, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Standifer Place in Chattanooga, TN. Joan was a native of the Copper Basin area and was the daughter of the late A.J. and Dollie Ledford Orton. She worked for many years as a nurse at Copper Basin Medical Center until she was forced to retire due to health problems. Mrs. Panter was a member of the Copperhill Church of God for many years and was unbeatable at Bible Trivia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, H.K. Panter; one son, Gary Dale Panter; sisters, Jimalee Harrison and Billie Jean Helton; brothers, Howard Orton and G.B. Orton.Survivors include, daughters and sons-in-law, Darla and Jeff Patterson of Jackson, GA, Marla and Buddy Walker of Jackson, TN and Misti and Scott Housley of Copperhill; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Wanda Panter of Copperhill, TN, Roger and Sharon Panter of Copperhill, TN; son, Denny Panter of Copperhill, TN; daughter-in-law, Joy Panter of Postelle, TN; grandchildren, Heather Pudil, Heath Panter, Brad Panter, Eric Panter, Sondra Oliver, Ivy Panter, Jordan Patterson, Clay Patterson, Ben Walker, Tashina Panter, Preston Panter, Zeke Housley and Kayden Housley; a host of great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends also survive.Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 4:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Key officiating. Music was provided by Karen Hicks and Homer Johnson, Jr. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Airport Road. Pallbearers were Heath Panter, Brad Panter, Eric Panter, Clay Patterson, Ben Walker and Nathan Pudil. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Orton, Jody Orton, Ronnie Helton and Harold Helton.
