Mrs. Jewel Garrett Prather, age 89 of Blue Ridge passed away Tuesday, October 13, in Heritage Health Care of Blue Ridge. She was a native of Pickens County, daughter of the late Jim and Sally Densmore Garrett. She had lived in Blue Ridge since 1945, and she was married to N.L. Prather for 67 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge serving as a Sunday school teacher. She was very active in several community organizations, including serving more than 3000 hours as a Pink Lady in the Ladies Auxiliary at Fannin Regional Hospital, being a founding board member of the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association and the Mineral Springs Center, and serving as a member of the Blue Ridge Garden Club, Blue Ridge Woman's Club, Blue Ridge "Merry Makers," Blue Ridge Bridge Players, and Copperhill Bridge Players. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hoyt and Lloyd Garrett and one sister, Edna Garrett White.She is survived by her husband, N.L. Prather; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Layne Prather all of Blue Ridge; two grandchildren, Whitney Prather Hall and her husband, Mark of Smyrna, Georgia and Garrett Prather of Sterling, Scotland and a niece, Marie Vaughan and her husband, Sherlin of Cartersville.Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge with Rev. Rodney Stamey and Dr. Charles Howell officiating. Music was by Imogene Stewart and Ione O'Neill. Pallbearers were Steve Eaton, Jim Ezell, Don Hall, Tim Mercier, Dr. Jack Roof, and Bill Walden. Interment was in the Chastain Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fannin County Scholarship Foundation at Post Office Box 1883, Blue Ridge, Georgia, 30513.
