Mr. Jewel Dean, better known as "J.D." Shields, age 71, of Morganton, GA passed away on February 22, 2015. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Sweet Gum Lodge #542 F&AM, a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Shrine. J.D. was the owner and operator of the Polaris Surveying Company.Survivors include his wife, Bertie Davenport Shields; children, Teresa (Paul) Shields Ledford, Tracy (Paul) Shields Beaster, Terry (Kathleen) Shields, Travis (Abby) Shields, Sharon Auberry Owens and Shonda Auberry; brother, Calvin Shields; sister, Emma Kate Ware; sister-in-law, Ruth Shields; grandchildren, Michael Paul Ledford, Tasha Ledford Black, Sara Beaster, Emily Beaster, Lily Beaster, Zane Beaster, Katie Perkins, Patrick Shields, Shelby Shields, McKenzie Shields, Shane Wilson, Seth Owens and Dakota McCoy; great grandchildren, Jackson Black, Zack Perkins, Amy Perkins, Koda McCoy and Anica Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
