Mr. Jewel Green, age 86, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Mr. Green was born on May 7, 1923 in Fannin County to the late Lester and Myrtle Ward Green. He retired after thirty years of service from Tri State Electric EMC as a meter reader. Mr. Green was a faithful member of Barnes Chapel Baptist Church. He loved working outside and in his garden. Mr. Green was preceded in death by a son, Robert Green who was killed in Vietnam, which gave Mr. Green the 'Gold Star Father' recognition. He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery Robert Green and great-grandson, Joshua Green; brothers, J.C. Green, L.B. Green, Tommy Green; sisters, Susie Dean and Ruby Green.He is survived by his wife, Vernie Green of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Brenda Green of Salisbury, NC, Steve and Loraine Green of Blue Ridge, GA and Rev. Jimmy and Angie Green of Epworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Winston Garrett of Blue Ridge, GA; brothers, Eugene Green of Lakewood, GA and Lester Green of MI; grandchildren, Randy Green, Jennifer Tyner, Lisa Azbill, Chris Green, Marc Garrett, Heather Garrett, Angel Fair, Julie Green and Keisha Green; great grandchildren, Alex Tyner, Jacob Tyner, Caleb Green, Carly Green, Hannah Grace Green, Brittany Galloway, Cole Thomas, Stephen Azbill and Kailey Campbell also survive.Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Harold Weeks and Rev. Jimmy Green officiating. Music was by The Gilliam Farmer and Pat Mashburn. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with Rev. James Galloway officiating. Pallbearers were Marc Garrett, Randy Green, Chris Green, Steve Huffman, Andy Huffman, and Mark Clemmons. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.
