Born in Fannin County, he was the son of the late Ferda Lee and Hattie Patterson Stewart. He was a retired dreg operator employed by Great Lakes International. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Cohutta Hills Baptist Church and Sumach Lodge #55 F&AM where he was a Past Master in Chatsworth, GA.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Willie Stewart; one sister, Betty Jean Stewart; and two grandchildren, Rachael Johnston and Punkin Shelton.

Survivors include his wife of over fifty two years, Tressa Marie Stewart of the home; son Jesse Leon Stewart of Chatsworth; daughters, Betty Louise Shelton of Dalton, GA, Cheryl Ann Wilcox of Chatsworth, GA and Brenda Lee Johnston also of Dalton, GA; brothers, John Stewart and Bob Stewart both of Blue Ridge, GA; sisters, Vina Marie Green of Snellville, GA, Dib Cochran of Varnell, Ga and Iva Pope of Blue Ridge, GA; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday June 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Danny Cochran officiating. Music was provided by Loretta Smith, and Ralph and Teresa Cochran. Pallbearers were pallbearers: Tony Shelton, Shaon Forrester, Phillip Wilcox, Travis Wilcox, Chris Stewart and Ralph Cochran. Interment followed a memorial dove release in the Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery.

Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
