July 6, 1966 – February 13, 2025
Jeffrey Todd Compton, known to all as Todd, 58 of Marietta, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from a sudden illness. Todd was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, but spent his childhood and early adult years in Walhalla, South Carolina. He was the seventh of eight children born to Rev. Bill Compton and Ruth Ann Lewis Compton.
He was an avid reader with an extensive book collection. He was also a lover of crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.
Todd was a 1984 graduate of Walhalla High School and attended Savanah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was a gifted artist with a penchant for drawing with his preferred medium being pencil. His favorite art and artists were the Realism Impressionist portraits of John Singer Sargent and the Art Nouveau paintings of Gustav Klimt. His favorite painting was Portrait of Madame X by John Singer Sargent.
He also had a keen eye for design and styling and worked for many lucrative retailers such as Banana Republic, Nieman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Versace, and Creed Fragrances. He worked as regional visual manager for several Banana Republic locations across Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was able to meet many celebrities through this career and could tell you interesting stories about his encounters.
At age of 50, Todd became a licensed professional in the field of cosmetology and barbering. He attended Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy in Marietta, Georgia and was the first student from that location to graduate with honors. After a few years behind the chair taking clients, Todd returned to his alma mater to become an instructor, followed by a teaching position at Paul Mitchell The School Esani in Roswell, Georgia. His true passion was teaching. He was an amazing, knowledgeable instructor. He met every one his students with patience, kindness, and eagerness to help them learn.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Bill Compton. He is survived by his husband, Jared Helton, miniature Schnauzer Hazel, mother, Ruth Ann Compton, sisters and brothers Cathie Bracewell, Steve Compton, Mark (Tammy) Compton, Lori (Charlie) Williams, Scott (Jan) Compton, Lisa (Shane) Addis, and Brad Compton. Many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by special friends Paul and Patti Parker of Woodstock, Georgia, Michael Brannock of Atlanta, Georgia, Charles Wildes of Atlanta, Georgia, and Will and Jessica Crawford of Powder Springs, Georgia. Extended family in Blue Ridge include Randy and Lydia Helton, Jessie and Jason Hall, Laila Helton and Dane Coleman, and Cali Hall.
Todd will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, wit, intelligence, creativity, kindness, sassiness, and humor by all who knew him.
The service to remember Todd's life was held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 3:30 PM at Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge with Mr. Charles Wildes providing a eulogy. Pallbearers were Randy Helton, Jason Hall, Dane Coleman, Michael Gray, and David Pilgrim. Todd's family met with friends at the funeral home, prior to the service, from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice in Todd's memory.
