Jean O'Connor Myers, 81 of Hayesville, NC formerly of Blue Ridge, GA died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Mrs. Myers was born in Springwood, Virginia to the late T.W. and Lucille Greene O'Connor. She graduated from Roanoke (VA) College with degrees in Education. Prior to her retirement Jean taught English in Fannin and Union County schools. An avid bridge player she proudly attained the level of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. Jean was active in the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Duplicate Bridge Clubs, serving as secretary for each. She also volunteered at Granny's Attic thrift shop operated by the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice. She maintained her membership in the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jack, daughter Martha Myers and grandson Nathan Rice. Survivors include daughter, Jackie Bell (Butch) of Hayesville, NC son Lyle (Katherine) of Savannah, GA and daughter Laura Sisson (Charlie) of Blue Ridge, GA, and one sister, Joann McGee of Fayetteville, GA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 1p.m. at Oak Forest United Methodist Church in Hayesville by the Reverends Guinnell Hunter and Jacob Kyker. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to the charity of your choice.
