J.C. Wood, age 80, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home. Mr. Wood was born in Lumpkin County, GA on May 15, 1938 to the late Miles Wood and Woodie Sisk Wood. He worked for Levi Strauss in Management. Mr. Wood was a United States Navy veteran serving in the United States expeditionary forces in the Taiwan Straights, served in the South Pacific off the Vietnam Coast, and served on the U.S.S. Orleck. Mr. Wood was a member of V.F.W. #6570, American Legion #248, D.A.V. Chapter #28, and the North Georgia Honor Guard. He was instrumental in the founding of the Veteran's Memorial Park in Blue Ridge and also served as President of the Veteran's Memorial Park. Mr. Wood was of the Church of God faith. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Wood of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Patsy Wood of Blue Ridge; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chuck Ware of Canton, GA; brother, Carson Wood of Dahlonega, GA; mother-in-law, Isabel Waters; grandchildren, Allison Wood, Loren Ware, Nathaniel Wood, and Erin Ware. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Chapel with Rev. Paul Adams and Rev. Jack Buchanan officiating. Music was by Chris Woods and Martha Towe. Pallbearers were Chris Woods, Richard Wood, Sam Jenkins, Michael Waters, and Don Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Heaton, Doug Hughes, Mike Beavers, and Randall Davis. Interment followed in Chastain Memorial Park with Full Military Honors provided by North Georgia Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the funeral home at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
