Janice Nunan Mitchell died peacefully at home in Morganton, GA on July 14, 2018. Born March 4, 1934, in Salem Massachusetts, Jan grew up in nearby Marblehead. As a young woman, Jan served as a Northeast Airline flight attendant and then began a long career as a medical secretary, retiring from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. Since childhood, Jan enjoyed an active life. She was an accomplished swimmer, master snow skier, avid bridge player, voracious reader, and enthusiastic partner with her husband, Tom, on camping, travel, and sailing adventures. She loved animals, she loved people, and Jan had a delightful sense of humor. Jan was proceeded in death by her parents Raymond Nunan and Bernice Sprague Nunan and by her son, David Lowell Robertson. She is survived by her husband, Thomas O. Mitchell, daughter Laura Robertson Tobias and husband, Glenn Tobias, grandchildren Alexi Grace and Graham Robertson. Additional survivors are her sister, Kathleen Nunan McGuckin and husband Ken, nieces Jennifer Herbert and Leslie VanDerven. Jan was supported during her illness by extended family, friends, and the attentive care of Kristen Cole and Angela Ray. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cherry Log Christian Church Disciples of Christ on Monday, August 6 at 11AM.
