Janice Louise Martin, 74, of Turtletown, Tennessee, passed away in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 5, 2026.
Born on July 7, 1952, in Copperhill, Tennessee, Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Mae Kirkland Carruth. A dedicated educator, she spent 25 years shaping young minds with the Polk County Board of Education. Outside the classroom, Janice was a creative soul with a passion for reading, writing poetry, and crafting stories. She found great joy in traveling, cast a line whenever she could go fishing, and held a deep, lifelong fascination with her family's history and heritage.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Patrick Martin; parents; and siblings: Bob Carruth, Leonard Carruth, and Rosella Carruth.
Janice is survived by her two sons, Brady Martin and Brian Martin; siblings, Ruth Williams (Daniel) and their daughter Maegan Williams, Patricia Cox, and Kay Rymer (Ernie); along with a loving circle of extended family, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations in Copperhill, Tennessee. Janice will be laid to rest during a private interment at Zion Hill Cemetery in Turtletown, Tennessee, at a later date.
