Rev. James A. Worthey Jr., age 75, of Farner, TN, passed away on October 26, 2020 at his home. He was born in Farner, TN to the late John Avery Worthey and Lula Taylor Worthey. James served his country for 3 1/2 years and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served as a Pastor in local area churches for the past 44 years. James also worked at Cities Services for 10 years. James is also preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Worthey. Rev. Worthey is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy Worthey of Farner, TN; Daughters, Karen (Jady) Shorette of Hiwassee Dam, NC, and Shelley (Chris) Higdon of Ducktown, TN; Son, Daniel Worthey of Atlanta, GA; Brother, Hoyt Worthy of Farner, TN; Sisters, Velvie Mantooth, Elsie Cox, and Willa Mae Hicks all of Cleveland, TN; Grandchildren, Taylor Higdon, Raegan Higdon, Jaden Shorette, and Madison Shorette; Brother-in-law, Mike Hicks and wife Teresa; Sister-in-law Debbie Self; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Mitchell Allen Officiating. Music was provided by Janice Reid. Serving as Pallbearers were Max Worthey, Avery Worthey, Tim Worthy, Anthony Worthy, Dawson Worthy, Scott Chancey, Josh Chancey, Mike Hicks, and Michael Hicks II. Honorary Pallbearer was Hoyt Worthy. Interment followed at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
