James Edward McGill, age 79 of Blue Ridge passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024 in Dalton, GA. He was born on July 8, 1945 in Atlanta, GA to the late Willard McGill and Jessie Fain McGill. James graduated from West Fannin High School in the class of 1963. He had worked at Levi's, Tennessee Chemical as a welder (boilermakers) and was a self-employed construction electrician since 2004. James was a member of O'Zion Baptist Church for over fifty-five years, serving as a deacon since 1971, choir leader since 2005 and the church clerk since 2009. He was a fifty-year member of the Blue Ridge Lodge #67 F&AM.

Survivors are his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret McGill; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Henry (Benny Joe); son and daughter-in-law, Randall McGill (Kristy); grandchildren, Zachary Danner (Alexis), Blake Henry (Rebekah), Lexi McGill, and Sydney McGill; great-grandchildren, Riley Danner, Carter Danner, and Bennett Danner; sister and brother-in-law, Wilanell and Tommy Carter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from O'Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Cantrell and Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins officiating. Music will be by Kenny O'Neal and the choir. Interment will follow in the O'Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jackie Cochran officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Underwood, Dewayne Walden, Jason Stewart, Zack Danner, Steve Beaver, and Blake Henry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernest Long, Hubert Stewart, Tommy Herndon, Richard Long, William McGill, and Rev. Michael Pope. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Condolences may be made to the family at www.akinscobb.com.
