Mr. James Garnett Mayhugh, Sr., age 82, of Mineral Bluff, GA, passed away on December 8, 2020 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Sidney Garnett and Martha Edna Spath Mayhugh. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Doris Ann Nunn on August 9, 1963 in Falls Church, VA. Soon after they welcomed their two children into the world, Jim Mayhugh, Jr. and Lena Jaquish. In 1967, he moved his family to Daytona Beach Shores, FL and lived in the Dayton Beach and Port Orange communities until they moved up to Blue Ridge. James retired after 25 years of service with General Electric in Daytona Beach, FL. He enjoyed a life of Racing at the Daytona International Speedway and worked there during his earlier years parking cars. He also enjoyed fishing off the coast of Florida and golfing. Together, Doris and Jim bought and refurbished an Imperial Motor Home and traveled all over the United States and into Canada for some of the best times of their lives. Living in Blue Ridge with his wife was very joyful alongside his cousins Jim and Terri Lassiter who had originally introduced them to Fannin County. Jim joined Blue Ridge United Methodist Church and was very blessed with a loving church family; which included Tommy and Alma Callahan, Joe and Marilyn Roth along with many others. His wife, Doris A. Nunn Mayhugh of over 49 years precedes him in death.
Survivors include his children, James Mayhugh, Jr. of De Land, FL and Lena and Joseph Jaquish of Ormond Beach, FL; grandson, Stephen Mayhugh; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Joseph Holeyfield; and many other cousins, relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church with Dr. James Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Mr. Mayhugh will lie in state at the church prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed online via the Youtube channel of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church.
