James Henry Long, age 79, of Mineral Bluff, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Mineral Bluff, GA. Born on December 20, 1938 in Blue Ridge, GA, he was the son of the late Wayne Long and Daisey Kendall Long. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mineral Bluff Lodge #483 F&AM. He worked at Levi Strauss, Tennessee Chemical Company, and later retired from the Fannin County Board of Education where he worked as a custodian. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hyde Long and son, Junior McClure. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Kristin Long of Mineral Bluff; granddaughter, Lexy Long; sisters, Helen Stanley, Lois Weeks, Shirley Crane, and Betty Davidson.Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 2:00 pm from Akins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Weeks and Rev. Scott Mathis will officiate. Music will be provided by Shannon York. Interment will follow in the Chastain Memorial Park. John Stephens, Chad McClure, Chris Wood, Jeff Patterson, Adam Walker, Mark Burger will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Beavers, Jay Tipton, Bobby Kendall, Bill Harkins, and Grady Bryson. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fannin County School System Children's Fund.
