Obituary

James Thomas Herbermann Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by loved ones.

James "Santa Jim" is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his children, James II (Tina), Matthew, Amanda (Liam), and Kathlene; his grandchildren, Madeleine (Cornell), James III (Meghan), Kristen, Henry, Sean, Peyton, Rhyan, Karman, Marian; his sisters, Paula and Kitty; and his brother, Danny Sr (Donna).

A patriot to our country, James served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked tirelessly to provide for his growing family, never shying away from long days or hard work. In a bold leap of faith, he moved his family from the suburbs of Atlanta to Gainesville, Georgia, to begin a new adventure-starting a Christmas tree farm rooted in love, perseverance, and tradition. What began as farming eventually grew into something even more magical, as he later became a professional Santa, bringing joy, laughter, and wonder to countless children and families. Whether in uniform, in the fields, or in a red suit, he lived a life of service, generosity, and the heart of a Christian.

James was a warm soul whose sincere smile lit up the room and made all who entered feel welcome and seen. Many people of all ages were blessed to experience the joy of being in his presence, drawn naturally to the light he so freely shared.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that James be remembered through acts of kindness and time spent with loved ones.
