James Woodrow Hemming, age 81 of Farner passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 in Athens, TN. He was born on June 8, 1936 in Farner. He was a member of Turtletown Baptist Church. He retired from the Tennessee Forestry Service as a firefighter. He was a member of Ducktown Lodge #241 F&AM and also a member of the Shrine. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Dalton Hemming, and parents, Roy Hemming and Myrtle Jones Hemming.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Hickey Hemming of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Timmy Joe and Alicia Hemming of Turtletown, Jed and Diane Hemming of Coker Creek, Randy and Carolyn Hemming of Coker Creek, and James Carl "Jimmy" and Anona Hemming of Turtletown; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and John Hunter of Ringgold, Vicky Hemming of Cleveland, and Teresa and Mickey Taylor of Farner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Loretta Hemming of Coker Creek and Arnold and June Hemming of Farner; sister, Esther Ann Bishop of Cleveland; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. from Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Ray Harper officiating. Music was by Tristan Galloway and Kayla Hemming. Pallbearers included Johnny Dunn, Ricky Brown, Ray Dean, Johnny Hunter, Kenny Morrow and Mickey Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers were Bob Cooley, Reid Shaw, John Walker and Clyde Raper. Interment followed in the Epperson Cemetery in Coker Creek. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
