James "Jim" Harlo Harris Jr., age 76, of Murphy passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026. Jim was born on November 1, 1949 in McCaysville, Georgia to the late James Harlo Harris Sr. and Elizabeth Adele Bandy Harris. He was a Master Mason from McDonough, Georgia. Jim worked as a truck driver for over twenty years for FedEx. He enjoyed spending time raising and caring for horses. Jim also enjoyed many aspects of motorcycle dirt track racing especially motorcross. His greatest love was for his children and grandchildren who he cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Harris; siblings, James E. Harris, Bill H. Harris, Michael R. Harris, and Jean Calhoun; and brothers-in-law, Joe Watson and Charlie Calhoun.
Jim is survived by his wife, Deborah J. Harris; sons, David Warren Harris, Danny Michael Harris, and Dennis Wayne Harris; daughter, Elizabeth Adele Rose; brothers, Haril (Dale) Harris and T.J. (Ann) Harris; sisters, Linda Watson and Judy (Leon) Queen; sisters-in-law, Shirley Harris and Sherry Harris; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb of Copperhill Chapel with Brother Jeremy Tipton and Brother Johnny Prater officiating. Music will be provided by the New Hope Holiness Singers. Interment will follow in the New Hope Holiness Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Harris, Jeremy Harris, Shannon Harris, Terry Harris, Aidan Harris, John Rose, and Drew Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Harris and Kenny Johnston. The family will receive friends at Akins-Cobb of Copperhill on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
