James Robert "Dawg" Guinn, age 78, of Morganton, GA passed away on September 19, 2026. He was born on February 17, 1948 in Ducktown, TN to the late Grayson Guinn and Alma William Guinn.

Mr. Guinn dedicated many years of his life to serving the citizens of Fannin County through his career in law enforcement, rising to the level of Sergeant. He retired from the McCaysville Police Department in 2018 after faithfully serving his department and community.

Before beginning his career in law enforcement, Mr. Guinn proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea. His life was truly one of service to his country, his community, and those around him.

James was also well known throughout the community as "Coach." Starting in the 1970s, he gave his time to the Fannin County Recreation Department, helping coach football, basketball, and softball, and making a difference in the lives of countless young people.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Shannon Robert Guinn and Jamison Shawn Guinn.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cindy Guinn; daughter, Kristen (Josh) Cole; son, Landon Guinn; grandchildren, Riley Cole, Caden Cole, and Willow Cole; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Guinn.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. John Arp and Chief Michael Earley officiating. Police honors will be rendered by the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard. Music will be provided by Jeff Parton. Honorary pallbearers will be Chief Michael Earley and the McCaysville Police Department and Former Sheriff George Ensley and Sergeant Guinn's former Co-workers with the Fannin County Sheriff's Department. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the service hour of 7:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Mr. Guinn may be made the the Fannin County Quarterback Club or the the charity of you choice.
