Obituary

James Lee Dunn, age 78, of Farner, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by a host of family and friends. James was born on October 14, 1947, in the Copper Basin, to the late Lloyd Dunn and Mattie Womble Dunn. James enjoyed singing with his music group, for which he did for more than fifty years. He is preceded in death by his parents; by granddaughter, Heather Wooten; siblings, Blanch Dunn, Reegene Dunn Taylor, Martha Jane Dunn Wooten, and Jack Dunn; sister-in-law, Rhonda Dunn; and brothers-in-law, Sonny Payne and Rex Wilcox.

James is survived by his wife, Wanda Lea Dockery Dunn; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly Ann and Ken Wooten and Teresa Lee and Junior Allen; grandchildren, Hollie Wooten, Ashley Lemay, and James Lemay; great-grandchildren, Carter Payne, Noah Bell, Raelynn Payne, William Payne, Koen McClure, Waylon Lemay, and Evie Montgomery; brothers, Wade Dunn and his wife, April; Tommie Ray Dunn; and Bobby Joe Dunn and his wife, Patricia; sisters, Rosie Lee Payne, Mary Ann Dunn Jones and her husband, Ronald; Glenda Dunn Farner, and Kathy Dunn Wilcox. A host of other family and friends also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 from Community Baptist Church with Rev. Mitchell Allen and Rev. Coy Adams officiating. Art Owenby and Clyde Rose will share personal stories. Music will be provided by Recognized. Interment will follow in the old Community Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Payne, Ken Wooten, Stanley "Alf" Dunn, Jason Farner, Scott Webb, Austin Baggs, and Harold Runion. Honorary escort will be Randall Payne, Randy Payne, David Ledford, Larry Farner, Lee Jones, Eddie Allen, and Scotty Hughes.

The family will visit with friends at Community Baptist Church on Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 1:00 PM.
