James Willard Curtis, age 76, of McCaysville, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in Chattanooga, TN. He was born on October 6, 1942, in Copperhill, to the late James Ed Curtis and Lona Mae Boggs Curtis. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill. He worked as head mechanic for the Fannin County Board of Education. He is also preceded in death by siblings, Wade Curtis, Wayne Curtis, Junior Curtis, Charles Curtis, Bobby Curtis, Marilyn Stillwell, and Earlean Curtis.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Stewart Curtis; daughter, Penny (John) Bonds; granddaughter, Abbey Bonds; siblings, Max Curtis and Carolyn Anderson; step-children, Lanita (Jeff) Kaylor, Robert (Michelle) Stewart, and Tenya (Kevin) Queen; step-grandchildren, Anita Postell, Matthew Kaylor, Josh Mumpower, Tori Panter, Drew Stewart, and Mikayla Queen; and 9 step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Curtis and Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Music was provided by Ed Vest, Becky Millsaps, Cindy Call, and Cash Laws. Interment followed in the Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery with Matt Curtis, Tony Petty, Josh Curtis, Bobby Plush, Donnie Millsaps, Tostie Curtis, Matthew Kaylor, and Josh Postell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Buster Fowler, Danny Shinpaugh, Dan Long, Don Loudermilk, David Brooks, Steve Cochran, and Tommy Hamby.
