Ira Raulston "Raus" Abernathy, age 83, of Copperhill passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Mr. Abernathy was born on January 5, 1940 in Atlanta, GA to the late Ira Raulston Abernathy Sr. and Stella Moore Abernathy. He attended the First Baptist Church of McCaysville. Mr. Abernathy enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and watching football, as a fan of the Auburn Tigers. He is also preceded in death by brothers, George Abernathy, Ray Abernathy and foster brother, Buddy Burge.

Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Abernathy; sons, Michael "Greg" (Toni) Abernathy of Ellijay, and "Corbin" Brett (Andrew Beck) Abernathy of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Steven Abernathy and Samantha Houston; great-grandchildren, Aeden Houston, Mirra Houston, Kenzie Houston, Tess Abernathy, and Rori Abernathy; sister, Carol (Don) Bailey of Chatsworth; and foster brother, Terry Stevens.

Memorial services were conducted on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Akins-Cobb with Dr. David Drake officiating. Music was provided by Denise Shinpaugh. Flowers will be accepted, however, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing in honor of Mr. Abernathy.
