Mrs. Imogene McVey Stewart, age 81, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away on October 30, 2018 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Stewart; parents, Rev. Wm. Isaac and Una Cox McVey; siblings, Everette McVey, William "Junior" McVey, Eva Mae Mull and Bonnie Harper; and nephew, Roger Mull. Family was very important to her and her home was always open when family members needed a place to live. It was quite often the site for many gatherings of family and friends. Music was a very important part of Imogene's life, even as a child. She sang in a quartet as a teenager and always sang in the Church Choir. Many times she was called on to sing at many funerals over the years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge for about 30 years and then most recently was a member of the Temple Baptist Church. She believed in giving back to the community and did so much in many ways. She served a 6 year term on the Jury Commission and a 5 year term on the Mental Health Community Service Board. She was a member of the Homemakers Club for 48 years and served several times as President. She participated in many projects and was the Harvest Sale Chairman for 12 years. Imogene enjoyed doing hand crafts and was an avid quilter. In 2009, she was named the Georgia Outstanding Homemaker Club Member of the Year. She along with her late husband, owned and operated Blue Ridge Motorsports Park for many years. Their son, Scott had raced at various other tracks too, and the family gained many friends in the racing Community. Survivors include two sons, Scott Russell Stewart and Lee Roy Stewart, Jr.; sister, Annabelle Sowers; grandchildren, Chip Stewart, Amberley Stewart, Caleb Stewart and Abby Stewart; and many extended family and friends.Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Harold Weeks officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jeff Panter, David Humphrey, Kenny Tankersly, Kyle Panter, Nip Adams and Dean Whitaker. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Junior Mason, Ted Weaver, James Bearden, Colby Panter and Allen Ward.
