Ilo Dale
Bossen
January 22, 1930 – March 26, 2023
Ilo Dale Bossen, age 93 of the Cashes Valley Community, passed away on March 26, 2023 in Jasper, GA. He was born in Platte, SD to the late Peter Martin Bossen and Ethel Mae Shepard Bossen. He proudly served his country in the United States Army attainting the rank of Sergeant. Ilo received his BA in education at Dakota Wesleyan University and later his Master's from South Dakota State University. He dedicated his life as educator, and also coached softball, basketball and football. He later retired as a principal from Oakland Elementary School in Gilmer County, Ilo was an avid sports fan, following the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved working his farm with his tractor and lawnmower, all the while tending to his cattle. Ilo enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, camping, NASCAR and traveling. He along with his loving wife had traveled to all 50 states and many countries. But most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Callihan Bossen; brother, Bob Bossen; and son-in-law, Thad Gray.
Survivors include his daughters and their spouses, Terry Gray and fiancee Ken Jones of Appling, GA, Nancy and Victor Jones of Sumter, SC, Judy and Bill Lillis of Hephzibah, GA and Mary White of Cherry Log, GA; grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Gray, Tori Jones, Alex Jones, Joseph Lillis, Trent Lillis, Katlyn Lillis and Amber and Paul Elder; great grandchildren, Max Gray and Ryker Gray; brother, Jack Bossen of Rapid City, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. from the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery with Min. Buddy Butler officiating. Music will be provided by Rachel Cowart. Serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Gray, Tori Jones, Alex Jones, Joseph Lillis, Trent Lillis, Katlyn Lillis, Amber Elder and Paul Elder. Chris Ensley will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Military Honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinscobb.com.
