Obituary

Ida Lou Postell, age 98, of Mineral Bluff, Ga passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Ida Lou was born July 7, 1927 in Mineral Bluff, Ga to the late Walter Ervin and Grace Watts Garren.

Ida Lou found great enjoyment tending to her flower gardens and had a special love for animals, especially cats and dogs. She enjoyed singing and was also adept at playing multiple musical instruments, including piano, guitar, and mandolin.

She'll be remembered for always wanting a cup of good, strong coffee, and enjoying a good game of cards.

Ida Lou was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Walter Garren and Grace Watts Garren; husband, Earl Postell; brother, Ralph Garren; step-brother, James Prince; several other siblings; son, Steve Postell; grandson, Samuel Postell; and son-in-law, Daniel Tallent.

Ida Lou is survived by her daughter, Darlene Gibbs (Thomas); son, Barry Postell; daughter, Jone Ellen Daves (Mike); daughter, Jolene Tallent; son, Tim Postell (Melissa); grandchildren, Tommy Gibbs (Tammy), Terry Gibbs (Kristie), Jennifer Postell, Stacy Postell, Chris Postell, Jamie Daves (Gabriella), Jeffrey Daves (Stephanie), Adam Postell, Aaron Postell (Cory), Mandy Lail (Tim), Amy Palmer (Jarrett), Hope Hamilton, and Tiffany Campbell (Brandon); 25 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Denny Hawkins officiating. Music will be provided by Adam Postell. Interment will follow in the Salem #2 Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Jamie Daves, Jeffrey Daves, Tommy Gibbs, Terry Gibbs, Adam Postell, and Aaron Postell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Hudson Daves, Tim Lail, and Ethan Hamilton. The family will visit with friends at the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge, GA on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
