The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. Hugh F. Beam, age 76, of Ellijay, GA who passed away Friday, September 11, 2009 in the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. He was on born February 16, 1933 in Marion, NC to the late Hugh F. Beam, Sr. and Louise Taylor Beam. He attended Atlanta Law School, and was the retired owner of Beam Child Care. He was Ham radio operator; his call signals were W4AFB and QCWA. Mr. Beam was an OTC member, an OOTC member, and a member of DXCC. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Russell Beam of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melanie Beam of Mountain Home, AR; daughters, Barbara Crow of Oxford, AL and Ann Beam of Marietta, GA; brother, Donald Beam of Marion, NC; grandchildren and spouses, Shelley (Michael) Third of Ottatchee, AL, Melody (Jeremy) Gunter of Ottatchee, AL, Bailey Beam Mountain Home, AR and Colin Beam of Mountain Home, AR; great grandchildren, Daniel and Christopher Third, Gregory, Ethan, and Abigail Gunter. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins Chapel with Brother Howard Carroll and Brother Lee Garland officiating. Music will be by Bill Franks. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 4:00 p.m. from Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion, NC. Pallbearers will be Keith Rueckert, Mickey Moskovitz, Ronald White, Bill Franks, Cliff Lumpkins and James Walden. Graveside pallbearers will be Michael Beam, Donald Beam, Jeremy Gunter, Michael Third, Bob Palmer and Jim Wages.
